At Westhill Academy we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and nurturing school with high aspirations for our pupils and colleagues. We have approximately 750 pupils and currently over 98% of these young people move on to positive destinations, the majority of these being University places.

Do you have the skills and experience to help us continue to achieve these amazing outcomes for the young people of Westhill?

We are looking for a creative and inspirational Teacher to join our Design and Technology Department at Westhill Academy. Our teachers are encouraged to think creatively, develop new ways of working and have the autonomy to implement these in school, whilst being supported by a collaborative leadership team.

We are a high attaining school with a reputation for successful, high attainment in National 5 Graphic Communication with a large proportion of pupils progressing to Higher. We also have high numbers undertaking the National 5 and 4 Practical Woodwork course.

Passionate about excellent outcomes for our learners, inclusion plays the largest part of our learning and teaching with our CFE cohort given enriched experiences including enterprise, problem solving, manual and computer skills in our 3 fully fitted computer suites.

Our department are dedicated towards developing the young workforce and are working towards expanding our range of courses on offer through our working partners in industry and colleges through the Foundation Apprenticeship scheme in Creative and Digital Media and Engineering.

Alongside our three computer suites, we have two fully fitted workshops, dedicated saw cutting room, 3D printing facilities, visualisers and a state-of-the-art smart board.

To further enhance our ICT strategy, our school is focussed on implementing a “bring your own device” to allow our learners to collaborate using specialist Autodesk software on their person Laptops and Tablet devices.

Why Aberdeenshire?
Westhill is a small town in Aberdeenshire, located 7 miles from Aberdeen City. Westhill lies near to the new City bypass, affording quick transport links to north and south. The town is close enough to appreciate all the city’s amenities, as well as being rural enough to appreciate the breath-taking scenery of Aberdeenshire and experience a variety of outdoor pursuits locally.

At Westhill Academy we recognise that in order to recruit and retain high quality Teachers it is necessary to have a competitive relocation and resettlement scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to compensate employees for reasonable expenses directly incurred as a result of a change in primary residence. The change must be wholly or mainly to bring their residence within a reasonable daily travelling distance. Under the terms of this procedure relocation expenses of up to £8,000 (including vat) will be reimbursed.
