I started working for the council as a Word Processor Operator for Property in 2007. The team I joined was friendly and supportive, and I quickly realised this was going to be a great place to work. Over time I developed a keen interest in HR. My line manager supported me in this area of development, which gave me the opportunity to apply for the role of HR Assistant.
I was then given the opportunity from my new service to develop further in this field. I was given time and support to complete a PgDip in Human Resource Management and progressed to the role of HR Adviser, gaining experience while working across various HR teams.
In 2021 I had my son and was introduced to the world of parenthood. Again, I felt fully supported across my pregnancy, which has continued as my son has grown. Time has been provided where there has been a need to arrange emergency childcare – and I have always had a great source of advice and comfort from my work family!
I would recommend Aberdeenshire Council as an employer from the experience I have had. I value the supportive culture that exists. It has been instrumental to my development and in achieving a great work/life balance.
