What is a Modern Apprenticeship in Leisure?

Modern Apprenticeships are designed to help you learn whilst working.  You’ll gain hands on experience with your employer and work towards a qualification all while getting paid.  During your apprenticeship, you will receive full training from experienced staff to enable you to complete the day to day activities required in your role.  This work-based learning is aligned with a set criteria allowing you to achieve an SCQF Level 5 (also known as SVQ Level 2) in Operational Services.

There are over 15 leisure facilities throughout Aberdeenshire providing sport and culture opportunities for the community. Within these facilities our qualified and experienced staff deliver a wide range of sport and leisure activities. Working alongside these team members, you will play a part in the delivery of health and safety throughout the facility, assist with delivery coaching sessions and the provide quality customer service.

A Day in the Life

A typical day in a leisure centre involves assisting customers with enquiries, ensuring the safe operation of equipment in the gyms as well as the correct use of facilities including the swimming pool. You will take part in coaching sessions while promoting all available services to the public and help with the overall day to day management of the leisure centre. Studying for your SVQ is completed and assessed as you work, there is no day release to college or exams required.
