Planning Officer (Development Management)

We presently have a number of Planner vacancies within the Development Management Section. The posts offer excellent opportunities to deal with a varied and diverse caseload within a Service which is central to helping support the Council’s strategic priorities including economic growth, diversification and regeneration while protecting and promoting the area’s natural and cultural heritage qualities.
The Development Management function of the Council is delivered by area based Development Management Teams of the Planning Service, of which there are three covering Banff & Buchan/Garioch, Buchan/Formartine, and Kincardine & Mearns/Marr.
The teams are responsible for dealing with all statutory functions in relation to development proposals submitted to the Council for planning permission. This structure allows greater flexibility to undertake cross area working within and between the teams providing opportunities to gain invaluable practical experience by dealing with a varied caseload within a diverse natural and built environment.

The role of Planner (Development Management) represents an opportunity to work as part of a team providing a Development Management service within Aberdeenshire. The role offers opportunities for being responsible for the assessing and determining of a varied caseload of planning applications; liaising with colleagues in other Services of the Council and external organisations in connection with development management matters and providing advice on planning matters to the public, developers and Elected Members of the Council; and contributing to Service wide improvement projects.
The structure and amalgamated approach of all the area teams, well established electronic systems and work smart principles allows greater flexibility in terms of cross area working within the teams, alternative working patterns (flexible working between the offices) and workload distribution.
The successful candidates will provide a key role in helping deliver the Development Management performance objectives as part of the Council wide Development Management Service.
