Survivor Reception Centre

A survivor reception centre is a secure area in which survivors not requiring hospital treatment can be taken for short-term shelter, first aid, documentation and, if necessary, police interview. If in close proximity to the incident scene, it is important to be able to screen the view from occupants to the centre.

The SRC is likely to be required immediately but only for a short-term duration. Although Aberdeenshire Council may be asked to identify and provide premises, this facility will be managed by Police Scotland and supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Voluntary Agencies. Other organisations such as oil companies or transport providers may also be present.

SRC Purpose

The purpose of a SRC includes but is not limited to:

  • Provision of a place of safety and shelter
  • Registration and recording of survivors’ details for the Police, Casualty Bureau (if activated) and the Care for People Team
  • Initial survivor interviews and evidence gathering process by the Police
  • First Aid provision
  • Provision of light refreshments
  • Provision for people’s wellbeing
  • Access to a range of personal and practical support services such as temporary accommodation, clothing, food, toiletries, nursing mothers, pets etc
  • Enabling contact with family and friends
