Why choose an Apprenticeship with Aberdeenshire Council?
Apprenticeships incorporate a work based qualification (SCQF 6 or 7/SVQ level 2 or 3) earned while gaining valuable work experience in your chosen career path. While it’s great if you have some experience in the chosen area it is by no means essential as full training is provided from experienced colleagues during on the job training. We particularly encourage Applications from 16-19 year olds.

The Apprentice Forum
Aberdeenshire Council hold a quarterly forum where all apprentices are invited to come together and discuss anything from their SVQ to general day to day life in their job.
The forum aims to bring apprentices from across the Council together to meet one another, share experiences and learn from each other. Jim Savege, Chief Executive, welcomes the group into their new roles and discusses how apprentices can help shape the future of Aberdeenshire Council. Apprentices from all around the Shire are invited to attend the from Early Years Modern Apprentices to ICT’S Graduate Level Apprentices as well as Modern Apprentices in Admin, Leisure, Libraries and Landscape.
Apprentice of the Year
Each year one of Aberdeenshire’s Apprentices are awarded the Apprentice of the Year Award. It is awarded on the basis of outstanding occupational progress, ability in their role, positive approach to employment and their personal qualities
Our 2019 Winner is Connor Buchan, Modern Apprentice Learning Disabilities at Ellon Day Centre, Connor provides support to Adults with Learning Disabilities.
Connor has become a valued member of the team in Ellon, starting at the Day Centre on a work placement then going on to secure the role of Modern Apprentice. He has displayed maturity and commitment to his learning and his service users, and has now gone on to become a permanent Support Assistant.
NUS Apprentice Card
All of Aberdeenshire Council’s Apprentices can now purchase their own NUS Extra Apprentice card. The card gives our Apprentices access to both online and in-store discounts, with over 140 UK discounts available on travel, food, fashion and much more.
